The board of supervisors on Wednesday approved the creation of a shelter for homeless veterans in Waverly, pending the finalization of the lease with the Waverly Low Rent Housing Agency, the home’s current owner.

This is only the second such shelter in the state of Iowa, said Neal Jarnagin, the director of Bremer County Veterans Affairs.

During the meeting and in prior discussions, supervisors quizzed Jarnagin to allay their concerns that the county is not exposed to any liability should any problems occur at the shelter.
